There is an urgent need for more pre-med and medical school students. By 2030, the U.S. will face a shortage of doctors that could reach 120,000. This shortage of doctors is good news for students who want to go to medical school. Schools are now offering more scholarships and grants to pay your college tuition. Some schools even offer free tuition.
New York University (NYU) has started paying full tuition for medical school students. Kaiser Medical school has also. Whether you are able to find a free med school program or not, there are ways to have your college tuition paid.

Health Resources and Service Administration Bureau of Health Professions Scholarship	Up to $15,000	June 30	Scholarship is for full-time students from disadvantaged backgrounds who demonstrate financial need. Students must be studying in a health field, such as pre-med, medicine, nursing, dentistry, or veterinary medicine.
National Hispanic Health Foundation	Varies	September 26	Targets Hispanic students who are committed to careers in health care and enrolled full-time in medical, nursing, dental, public health and policy schools. Applicants are not required to be Hispanic.
Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) Scholarship	$2,000	Varies	This $2,000 scholarship is available to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in public health, biochemistry, nursing, medicine, occupational health, or pre-med related disciplines. For students in their second or third year of medical school who  come from an underrepresented minority group. Applicants should show their dedication to community service as well as their leadership abilities. Chinese American Physicians Society Scholarships (CAPS)	$2,000-$5,000	Mid-March	CAPS scholarships are open to all medical students in need of financial aid.  The applicants are judged according to their academic achievements, financial need, community service records and practice of medicine essays. Special credit is also given to those who are willing to serve the Chinese communities after graduation.
Chinese American Medical Society Scholarship	$2,500	April 30	The society offers scholarships to current medical students. Preferences will be given to proposals studying problems related to health problems of the Chinese.
Herbert W. US Bank: Arthur and Dorren Parrett Scholarship Fund (WA)	$900 to $2,100	July 31	Eligible applicants must be Washington state residents at time of application and must have completed the first year of study in an accredited medical school. Financial need and academic merit are also selection criteria.
Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society Scholarships	$1,000-$3,000	September 30	Several scholarships available and awarded by county of residence. Must be resident at time of high school graduation or for at least four years prior to medical school.
Anarcha, Betsy, and Lucy Memorial Scholarship Award	$5,000	Varies	This National Medical Fellowships association scholarship is awarded to an African American woman who is a known descendant of American slaves, and who is enrolled in an accredited US medical school program. Applicants must demonstrate interest in gynecology and/or women’s health.

Hugh J. Andersen Memorial Scholarship Program	$5,000	Varies	Scholarship is open to second and third-year medical students who are members of an underrepresented minority.  Must be enrolled in a Minnesota medical school to be eligible.

A few medical schools are changing how we pay for medical school

NYU Medical School and Kaiser Permanente Medical School are two offering free tuition.
NYU offers free tuition. The tuition-free program is not merit based nor need based. The goal of the scholarship is to create a diverse group of doctors.
“A population as diverse as ours is best served by doctors from all walks of life, we believe, and aspiring physicians and surgeons should not be prevented from pursuing a career in medicine because of the prospect of overwhelming financial debt,” says Robert I. Grossman, MD, the Saul J. Farber Dean of NYU School of Medicine and CEO of NYU Langone Health.
The yearly tuition is $55,018, and this tuition cost is covered entirely by the scholarship. The scholarship applies to all students accepted into NYU Medical School.
Kaiser Permanente will open its medical school in 2020. The focus of the medical program is a more integrated approach to medicine. As a student there, you would spend your first year working in a “clerkship” alongside physicians, pharmacists, psychologists and social workers.
Kaiser wants its doctors to be advocates for their patients. The tuition cost will be $55,000. The scholarship will pay full tuition for the first five classes of students.
